LPGA star Lexi Thompson will play in the Shriners Children’s Open, a PGA Tour event. She has received an invitation from the sponsor for the tournament to be played in Las Vegas. “The support Shriners Children has provided to children with pediatric specialty medical conditions for over 100 years is inspiring, and as we all know, these conditions can affect everyone,” said Lexi Thompson.

“I hope the opportunity to play with the men next week at the Shriners Children’s Open sends a great message to girls: You can chase your dream no matter how hard it is. I look forward to coming to the city of Las Vegas and am grateful to Shriners Children’s for this opportunity.”

A powerful player whose tee shots are among the longest on tour, Thompson is coming off her sixth Solheim Cup, where she won last singles against Pedersen . She will be the seventh woman ever to compete in a PGA Tour event.

The first was LPGA player Babe Didrikson Zaharias at the Cascades Open in 1935. Lexi Thompson will be the first woman to compete since Brittany Lincicome at the Barbasol Championship in 2018. “We are thrilled to welcome Lexi to the 2023 tournament,” says Patrick Lindsey, executive director of the Shriners Children’s Open.

“The mission of Shriners Children is to help all children live their best lives, regardless of the medical challenges they face. We look forward to seeing Lexi on the path to overcoming this barrier, just as our more than 1.5 million patients do every day”.

Thompson will participate in the first round of the tournament starting Thursday, October 12 at TPC Summerlin and compete for the $8.4 million prize pool in a field of 132 players. The first documents testifying to the existence of rules of golf date back to March 1744.

The rules were produced in view of a competition to be held at a Scottish golf club, and contained 13 points in total. Initially, writing the rules was the responsibility of each individual club and therefore they varied depending on where the game was played.
