Emma Raducanu’s return to the court will not be made clear until the WTA confirm their schedule for the end of the year. The 2021 US Open champion is set for several months out of action after confirming on social media that she has decided to undergo surgery on both of her hands, as well as her ankle.

It rules Raducanu out of the entire grasscourt season including Wimbledon, but she also appears unlikely to play any part in the US Open either. When her eventual return could happen remains to be seen and will be dependent on her recuperation from the multiple procedures.

But judging from her own statement on social media, Raducanu appears hopeful of playing some tennis before 2023 is over.

The WTA released a provisional schedule for the year back in November through to the US Open. Their announcement six months ago stated: “Details of the remaining section of the calendar will be communicated in due course.”

However, there’s still been no confirmation on how the end-of-year schedule will look exactly. The WTA did announce last month that they had now lifted its suspension of tournaments held in China.

They confirmed that tournaments will be resuming in China from this September, although it didn’t state to what level that would be. Prior to the coronavirus pandemic, the WTA schedule had several tournaments hosted in China throughout the month of September.
