AFCON 2023: Nwabali Participates in Eagles’ Complete Training Before Key Angola Game, Footage Surfaces

The Nigerian national football team, the Super Eagles, are ramping up their training efforts for the crucial quarter-final match against Angola in the 2023 AFCON. This intensified preparation included a training session that took place on Tuesday, January 30.

There’s a positive update for the team and its supporters as goalkeeper Stanley Nwabali rejoined the full training session. Nwabali, aged 27 and a key player for the Super Eagles, has been a solid presence in the team’s journey in the current AFCON tournament, having played in four matches.

Nwabali, who plays for Chippa United in South Africa, had previously sustained an injury during Nigeria’s game against Cameroon. This incident occurred on Saturday, January 27, when Nwabali was fouled by Georges-Kevin N’Koudou. After being initially treated on the field, Nwabali had to be substituted in the 80th minute of the game. Post-match, he was observed with his knee in a strap, raising concerns about his fitness for the upcoming games.

In the days following the injury, there was much speculation regarding Nwabali’s ability to play in the quarter-final match against Angola, scheduled for Friday, February 2. However, a recent video from NFF TV, shared by Adepoju Tobi Samuel, a former media officer of the Future Eagles, indicates that Nwabali is likely to be fit for selection for the match against Angola, known as the Palancas Negras.

Coach Peseiro has shown a keen interest in having Nwabali guard the goalpost for the all-important quarter-final match, underlining his significance to the team’s strategy and hopes for success in the tournament.
